The temperature of our world is rising and the earth needs our help
Extreme weather events, loss of Arctic ice and sea-level rise are as real and urgent to act upon as a 10-tonne truck hurtling towards us, just seconds from impact.
The loss of homes, livelihoods and life caused by more intense floods, heatwaves, droughts and cyclones is now commonplace in our news and, for many, in our lives.
We can slow the rise in temperature, but we need to act now.
We cannot wait for governments and corporations to prioritize the planet over economic growth.
Each one of us has a part to play and, collectively, we can match the power of the powerful few.
Together we can place pressure on governments to produce systemic change, whether through the social mandate we provide, petitions, protests or our voting power.
Through boycotts, we can strip profits from corporations that destroy our planet, and so shape corporate policy.
And we can embolden those around us to change with us.
How bad is it?
This page examines the current state of our efforts to tackle the climate emergency. The situation is not good at the start of 2023 and is getting to be desperate. If we carry on as we have been we will exceed 1.5°C of warming at the end of this decade. This would expose us to much more severe weather impacts and powerful forces of nature that we do not know how to control.
Why does it matter?
This page explores the reasons why specific changes in our behaviour and lifestyle are important to make. The sections show how our everyday choices are linked to climate change and its impacts locally and thousands of miles away.
What can I do?
We can have an impact on our world. The sections on this page provide specific goals we can focus on and pledge to achieve, and different means of reaching them. So there should be options for everyone to pledge, whether young or old, rich or poor. We need to do as much as we can and as fast as we can. We need to build our numbers and do it together.

Many of us who are fully aware of the urgency and importance of making changes in our lives have already started, others may intend to and still more might be wondering what to do. So please pledge what you can here and display your pledges on social media, and just talk to friends and colleagues about what you are doing, A key part of our role is in spreading change through our actions becoming known to others in our social groups and online.
